Sue and I had been asked if we’d like to join a couple of friends for a drink at our favourite watering hole. After much deliberation, we answered in the affirmative. Who am I trying to kid? We were in like Flinn !

Whilst in The Griffin’s conservatory (the actual pub was rammed) the conversation turned to holidays and our friends, half heartedly, suggested that we may like to join them. This was meant to sound like a spur-of-the-moment idea but after talking with Sue later, she and Linda had been planning this, I believe.

I asked where and when and was told Cornwall and next month. They are caravanning on their usual site for a fortnight but we decided that a week in the middle of that would do us.

We couldn’t do too much in the pub but I made a mental list of what I’d need to do …

  1. Book dogs into kennels.
I emailed the kennels and later received a reply saying that she had retired and had sold the business. Helpfully, I was provided with contact details for the new owner.
    A job for tomorrow.
  2. Book onto the campsite.
I needed to do number 1 first.
  3. Check that someone could come and feed our birds and turtles whilst we were away.
    Until I had firm dates from 1 and 2, I couldn’t complete 3.
  4. Buy a new portaloo.

The Next Day

1. Leaving ample time for the kennel owner to get up and presumably feed her charges, I called the supplied number. I explained who we all were (humans and canines) and the dates required. Our departure date couldn’t be accommodated but we would be okay to push it back a day. We pencilled in our stay and I sent a covering email to confirm. I was sent a reply and a link to an on-line booking form which was completed and returned along with a deposit. Slightly dearer than before but to be expected, I suppose.

2. I found the campsite’s website and made a booking there with our firmed up dates. I also mentioned in the additional information section that we would be with our friends so hopefully we can be pitched near each other. Again, money exchanged hands – remainder to be paid by Tuesday.

3. Daughter confirmed to come in and attend to the critters.

After messaging our holiday buddies, I receive a message back saying that they were off to our local camping and caravan dealer and we agreed to meet them there.

We checked out the bog and decided of this beauty then found it about ten quid cheaper on Amazon – arriving tomorrow.

We then retired to the excellent little café for a bite and a drink.

With us refreshed we bid our farewells with Sue due to meet up with Linda on Wednesday when they can scheme some more.

A Group Run (Walk)

I have managed to exercise every day of the past week so needed an easier day today. For a little light exercise, I chose to do a couple of miles on the treadmill. I fired up Zwift and after selecting RUN (the only options are Run or Ride) looked for a route to follow. Under events was a run where the expected speed was advertised as 0.6 – 9.3 mph. My planned, gentle, 2.5 mph walk fitted in there.

I lined up with about half a dozen others and at the allowed time they all ran off leaving me to amble along behind them – just what I was expecting.

Not to worry, I did my own thing on our 1.6 mile loop remembering to give Ride-Ons as I was lapped.

I managed a couple of miles with a cool down and it wasn’t too boring. I could say being in a group helped but I hardly saw the rest of them.

Post walk, my workout was uploaded to Strava and Garmin Connect. The walk showed as a virtual run in Strava so I had to convert the Garmin version to walk (for some reason this can’t be done in Strava) and saving the exercise as a .GPX. Then I had to delete the Strava version and import the .GPX from Garmin. A bit of a faff but so be it.
