There could be, at least, two answers to that.
First (and my usual answer to the question) is “Born Ready”.
Another could be “Ready for what?”
In this case it might be best to go for the latter.
Ready for – the MS Walk Birmingham.
Yes – if you hadn’t already heard, I’ll be doing a ten mile charity walk around Birmingham this coming Saturday.
Comparing this walk with others that I’ve done in the past, this one looks like a walk in the park but that was before aging caught up with me. In particular, Oesteoartritis in my knees.

It has been creeping up for years but the days of walking forty, fifty or more miles a day is, sadly, behind me. Recently the pain (usually when I’m lying down trying to get to sleep) had got so bad that I’d contemplated a knee replacement but the uncertain outcome and extended recovery put me off.
Instead, I am trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle loosing some weight to relieve stress on the joints and to exercise gently but consistently to keep all the bits moving.
On the whole this seems to be working except for last week when I may have overdone the exercise portion. My knee were really painful Sunday night and through Monday.
I managed an easy few kilometres on the bike Tuesday and what was to be a couple of miles walking yesterday turned into another seven. I’ll restrict myself to a short, recovery ride today then take Friday as a rest day.
Anyway, back to the main question – am I ready ?
I think so. I’ll strap / tape my knees and should be able to complete the distance in around two and a half to three hours. I may well suffer afterwards.
To help me, I have a support crew who will ferry me to the start and back home afterwards. My crew can be quite vocal so I’m expecting some cheering along the way.
