A while back, probably a few years now, I had an excellent camera in the shape of a Nikon D500. Similar to my trusted D300s but with much better low light performance.
A common expression is that the best camera is the one you have with you and I wouldn’t always be lugging the chunky Nikon around but I usually had a phone in my pocket. I needed a new iPhone and plumbed for the, then new, iPhone 15 Pro Max. This was not cheap and to pay for it, I sold my D500.
I have been very happy with my iPhone and have taken some great pictures (at least in my opinion) but I, sometimes, miss the great low light capabilities of the Nikon.
I hung on to an earlier camera (D300S) which has served me well and when I need a ‘proper’ camera, this is my go to.
However, I have recently been having a sort out, putting stuff I don’t really need on eBay and earning a few bob. When I got around to sorting out my camera gear, I dusted off my old D300s and have been out a couple of times taking a few snaps.
I got to looking at an upgrade to the 300s and came across the Nikon (sticking with this brand as I have a load of lenses) D7000. Very similar to the 300s but with slightly more pixels (16MP v 12MP) but better low light handling.
Best of all, it wan’t too much (just over a ton) so I ordered one (second hand as this is around fifteen years old). It was after I’d placed the order that I realised that I bought from a camera shop in Japan.
EBay assured me that it would be delivered in about a week so not too bad. In the end it took just four days to travel from Yokohama to Birmingham and DHL dropped it off yesterday.
To help pay for my new purchase, I’m hoping to sell my D300s along with some spare which are not compatible with the new camera.
I did drag myself out of bed this morning and drove over to a local natures reserve where I grabbed a few shots.
