My other (better) half was in need of a little snooze, so we agreed that I should go for a walk and leave her alone.
I quickly devised a plan which involved me walking to the pub and Sue driving out to meet me after her rest.
I headed off to the village of Water Orton crossing under the busy A452 via a recently re-graffitied subway. One of the figures was of Tuesday Addams which struck a chord as we had recently watched the excellent Netflix series about the same lass.
I squelched past the HS2 works an through Water Orton and out towards Coleshill.
I passed Coleshill Parkway railway station after three miles before skirting Hams Hall distribution centre and out towards Whitacre Heath.
I was a little ahead of time (or so I thought) so added a little loop before backtracking a little to cross the railway.
As I left Whitacre Heath, I realised that I was going to be cutting it fine with my timing so after a quick glance at a map, decided on a slightly different route.
I passed a few isolated cottages, little beacons of light, as I followed the narrow lanes before crossing a field down towards Shustoke reservoir before crossing the railway (technically a different railway) again.
As I approached the reservoir, I picked the most direct route which is usually a bit of a swamp but I was pleasantly surprised to find a brand new path.
From the reservoir, I skirted a couple of fields before cutting across the last one up to The Griffin car park.
I arrived at the car park at 18:28, just two minutes before our agreed rendezvous. As I walked across the car park, I had a look for Sue’s car but it was not to be seen,
I entered the busier than usual boozer, spied an empty table which I claimed by dumping my headtorch and fleece onto it before making my way to the bar. I ordered myself a pint of Kelham’s Pale Rider and a coffee for Sue.
I had just sat down, when Sue walked in.
Another couple of jars and a chinese on the way home rounded off a good evening.
