One week to what ?

One week to my second Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon (BBCHM).

I did this last year, finishing in a time of 2:54:03. In the weeks leading up to the event, I did very little training with a longish walk a week or so before as a morale booster. When I signed up this year, I was determined to get a bit more training in but totally failed.

Again, I did a longish walk the week before; a pleasant ten miler including a few miles of canal. It was a rather warm 28 ℃ but after a couple of miles I settled into the familiar rhythm completing the distance in just under two and a half hours at an average pace of 14:33.

Last year, I got the tram to Wolverhampton but I thought that I’d try the train this time as it would drop me off just a couple of hundred metres from the start.

I checked the times on Network Rail and discovered that some of the train services between New Street and Wolverhampton would actually be by bus, taking nearly an hour instead of twenty five minutes. The tram takes forty mins. Oddly, not all trains are being replaced but I don’t want to chance it so I’ll be going by rattler again !

Confident that I shall complete next Saturday’s canal stroll, and determined to get back into the walking, I have signed up for another walk a couple of weeks after the BBCHM.

I last did this event back in 2021 (LINK). That time, I chose the eighteen mile course and I’ve opted for the same this time around so that I can compare results.

The event is held in the Worcestershire countryside starting and finishing a little to the North of Worcester, starting at 08:00.
