I has been a while since I posted here – mainly because I ain’t done much.

I should have taken part in the A Coventry Way but managed to pick up a nasty cold which really knocked me down. With a week to go, I retired letting someone else have my place.

The, as is often the case after a bit of a layoff, I was finding it hard to get my shit together. I managed a few dog walks but nothing serious.

Today, I was looking at my calendar, and I saw that the Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon was only ten weeks away. I check to make sure that I hadn’t already signed up – which I hadn’t.

I clicked on the ‘Enter Here’ button to find that I could sign up for only £39 as only five hundred of the fifteen hundred places have been snapped up. THIRTY NINE QUID ?

I had a look around and, on the LDWA website, found the 12 Hallows Parish walk for around a tenner. I’ve signed up for the fourteen miler.

Whilst nosing around I discovered that the Stornoway Half Marathon and 10k takes place at the end of May. Now you may be thinking that Stornoway is a long way-o-way, which it is from Birmingham. But it’s not too far away if you happen to be staying on the Isle of Lewis at the same time – which I will be.

Ten kilometres isn’t too far – a tad over six miles. For some reason, I signed up to RUN the 10k.

I stopped running a while back after my right, arthritic, knee starting giving me some pain. Before, when I have tried returning to running, this usually happens after a few weeks.

This time I shall try and be more careful and have already ordered some K tape to strap up my knee.

I have about four weeks to get my body used to running again so am working out a short training programme.

I have starting the training today with a short blast on the treadmill. I’ve just done two miles by walking for a minute then running the next – and repeat.

Nothing stupendous but it’s a start. Average pace 15:41 with the running up to 12:00 per mile. If I can get to ten minute miles I’ll finish the 10k in just over an hour.

Looking at last year’s 10k results that would put me around 50th out of eighty five. I can live with that.
