I followed up on the threat I made to myself and walked / ran to The Griffin.

The route I picked was one of the more direct a distance of around seven miles. I had no definite plan and would run when I felt like it (call it fartlek).

I walked the first half mile or so then trotted down the hill to Water Orton. Another jog after recovering from the first took me to the Coleshill Bypass. Once over this busy road, I ran a stretch before walking to the railway station.

From Coleshill Parkway, I jogged alongside the River Tame.

From here on it was run a bit, walk a bit.

I arrived at The Griffin a bit later than I had anticipated (a lot harder than I thought) but with the sense that I’d achieved something.

In the watering hole, I was asked by some friend whether I had walked to which I replied “Walked AND run!”

As I ordered drinks, Sue went on to explain that some silly bugger (that’d be me) had signed up for a 10k RUNNING race. “Which one?” we were asked. “Stornoway 10k”, I answered. “Local one then?”

I went on to explain that it would be local as we will be staying about twenty miles from Stornoway at the end of May (race is on 25th).

Looking at the stats on Strava, there’s no great difference between the walking and the running parts but look closely and it is there.

Good news – I managed a sort of run in the real world and survived to tell the tale.

Today (the day after) my legs hurt a bit and my knee a little sore.

I shall have today as a rest day then try another run tomorrow before a parkrun on Saturday.
