After my return to running and a few trots out last week, I have spent the last few days in some pain with a very swollen right knee. This has prevented me from any further jogs and even walking is difficult.

A little history …

Way back in 2017, I stumbled while out on a walk, landing on my right knee.

A year, or so, later I had an MRI scan which confirmed osteoarthritis. The doctor confirmed that walking was probably the best thing I could do – which was welcome news.

A few times since, I have tried returning to running. Usually, things go well but eventually the knee puts a stop to this but not for a few weeks or even months.

We are off to Scotland in a few week’s time and I spotted a 10k race (also a half marathon but that was pushing it) near to where we will be staying. Thinking that I could do a bit of running before hand, I embarked on a bit of a running programme. Nothing too strenuous, mainly walk / run of a couple of miles or so.

Almost immediately, my right knee objected and after only four days of intermittent running, I was unable to do any more. Even walking became difficult.

My knee had swollen and was very tender so much so that getting comfortable enough to sleep was neigh on impossible.

After icing, Ibuprofen tablets, gel and a bit of strapping, it is finally getting a little better (or I’m getting used to it).

I am trying to make a doctor’s appointment but can’t even get through to the receptionist !

Needless to say, the 10k is out of the window.
