Hoping that my recovery goes well, I have volunteered to tail walk on this Saturday’s parkrun at Babbs Mill. ‘Only’ three miles nice and steady.
Looking for something low-impact (so that definitely rules out running) I decided to dust off the bike and turbo trainer.
I hit a couple of snags …
1) Zwift has increased it subscription from £12.99 to £17.99 per month. I no longer think that this is value for money considering the time I spend on the app. I have found a FREE alternative (see below).
2) My nice, big, monitor that I use for Zwifting has packed up. I have ordered a new, smaller (32″ v 46″) monitor which should be delivered to work today that I can install tonight.
I have discovered a Zwift alternative called MyWhoosh. This platform was developed in the UAE by someone with a load of money.
Apparently, over the years, MyWhoosh has hosted a number of races with prizes of up to one million dollars. Last year MyWhoosh was granted the rights to organise the Esports World Championships by the Union Cycliste International (UCI). It is also the official indoor cycling platform for the UAE cycling team.
I have signed up and installed the app onto my Mac Mini. The app runs fine and easily picked up my Elite turbo.
I’ve had to install an app on my phone to enable MyWhoosh to use the heartrate monitor on my Apple Watch.
The app looks a lot like Zwift. Even though my knee is playing me up, I did climb into the saddle for a short trial ride.
Depending on what the physio says this afternoon, I am hoping to get back into the cycling (indoors at least) as a low impact exercise in addition to my running walking.
