I managed to fulfil my obligation last Saturday morning by walking around the Babbs Mill parkrun course, coming in last in a time of 1:08:27. A slow time but I was one of the official Tail Walkers.
It was the first ‘proper’ walk since my disasterous return to running and managed without too much discomfort. It did leave me tired with some mild knee pain.
On Monday, after more sleep deprived nights, I finally managed to get an appointment with the doctor.
After examining my knee, we agreed to continue with Ibuprofen gel for the swelling but for pain management (so that I can get to sleep) the doctor prescribed codeine.
He also sent me a link to an arthritis website where I could follow some knee strengthening exercises (LINK).
I have managed to perform these exercises for the past three mornings and I think that they are getting easier so hopefully my knees (especially the dodgy right one) are getting stronger.
I just need to do this every day.
To help, I have printed the exercises out and laminated the paper so that I have a durable reminder.
This morning, after my half hour of gentle stretching exercises, I took the doggies out for a couple of miles, finally completing my North Coast 500 virtual walk 🙂
I am quite pleased that I manged a good night’s sleep, did my knee strengthening exercises AND walked the dogs, and all before breakfast.
My knee was rather sore afterwards but after a few hours had returned to the ‘normal’ state of niggling pain.
