It was time to leave the Corn Bin. We had spent the last seven nights cocooned within its tin plate skin.
It hadn’t taken long to pack and we were on the road a little after nine.
We weren’t going straight home as we had another railway to visit tomorrow and would be staying at High Wycombe in the Hampton by Hilton hotel.
On the way, we had spotted on the Adventure Labs app, a cluster of adventures setup for the recent South Easy Mega. Closer inspection seemed to point to a series of fifty adventures each with five questions and as the series was called Stewart’s Quizzes we assumed that there must be about two hundred and fifty quiz type questions mainly about the counties of the South East.
We pulled up at the South East Showground and parked up in the pouring rain, firing up the app.
All fifty locations were accessible but the mobile internet wasn’t too hot – but usable.
We rattled through the first dozen or so adventures resorting to Google for some of the answers. Some were multiple choice so if we didn’t know the answer we could just keep clicking until we hit the correct option.
blessed with free wi-fi and the geo-fencing still had us close enough to the AdLabs so that we could continue our stint.
After another twenty minutes, we moved inside The Gardeners Arms and were still able to continue logging the locations.
We even continued during our meals of Club Sandwich / Apple Pie and Curry / Cheesecake. We dragged out the meal and therefore our time indoors with extra drinks but finally had to move out as far as the car park where we completed the adventures.
Some might call it cheating, and it did feel a bit like that – for a while, but it was an enjoyable way to spend a wet morning learning about the area.
With our finds total boosted by two hundred and fifty we packed up the tech. put our destination into the SatNav and prepared for the drive to High Wycombe.
All went well until we hit the notorious M25 where we slowed to a crawl – and that’s being generous.
At one point the SatNav said that we had seventeen miles to go but it would take us an hour !
Eventually, and it felt like it, we left the M25 for the noticeably quieter M40 before turning of a junction 4 and the hotel.
With all the rushing around this week, Sue was feeling particularly tired so I left her to rest whilst I took a stroll down to High Wycombe for AdLabs and a cache.
Now, when I say down to High Wycombe, I’m not exaggerating, it is at the bottom of a mile long 10% hill. And on these knees !
With the AdLab completed and a traditional cache found, it was time to slog back up the hill, calling in at Waitrose which was handily located next to the hotel.
Dinner comprised sausage rolls, pistacios and some gorgeous mini cup cakes washed down with a couple of tinnies.
