After our time in Sutton, I had decided to walk to The Griffin, along the same route as a week ago.

I was quite pleased with last week’s performance, managing the seven miles in a tad over two hours (2:04). The legs were tired afterwards and I had some trouble sleeping for the following two nights.

I made my way through Water Orton and then when I got to the A446 which is closed to traffic to enable HS2 to carry out it’s work, I was escorted through the roadworks, with one hi-vis handing me on to the next. I must have been limping a bit as one guy asked if I had a problem with my leg.

This week’s walk, felt a lot harder and I did suffer a few times when my right knee gave way a little accompanied by a short sharp pain.

I knew that I was walking slower from my regular split times. I plodded on (almost literally) finishing the walk seven minutes (or a minute per mile) slower in 2:11. I felt knackered.

Luckily, Sue arrived at The Griffin to take me home but not until a couple of pints were consumed. Technically, it was three pints but the first was orange juice and lemonade as a cooling re-hydration drink.

According to Strava I have burnt off around eight hundred calories – the same as the Pizza Express pizza that I had consumed earlier in the day.

Back home, it was a dinner comprising a cheese and water cress sandwich with a tomato on the side.

I retired to bed around half nine and luckily the legs didn’t prevent me from dropping off.
