It’s been quite a while since I posted my humdrum happenings here on the blog. I could say that I’ve been too busy but lazy may be a better verb to use in this situation.

So what have I been doing, if not blogging ?

Obviously (or obvs as the cool kids on the street say) we have been up to The Griffin a time or two. The landlord has started stocking Sue’s favourite cider (Thistly Cross Whisky Cask) so as evidenced in the photo, Sue’s had a pint and filled her jugs with a carry out. Technically not both four pint jugs contain cider – one’s for my ale.

We have also attended the (roughly) monthly pub quiz.

Our team (The Misfits) comprises of the Baldrys, our good friends the Freemans and our pub pals Matt and Caz.

We have managed to win on one occasion but due to a change of team members (Matt and Caz have trouble making the quiz every time – they’re young and have to go to work!) we have recently swapped them for our old buds Derek and Helen.

I have also restarted model railway modelling following the rearrangement of the office which provided me with an empty space. I have started a new section of the blog to detail the progress on the layout.

Basically, the layout is about 1700mm by 1100mm in an ‘L’ shape. modelled in N gauge, I’ve managed to get a continuous loop so trains can run around (and around) all day with some sidings to add a bit of interest.

To help create some of the tiny pieces required, I have purchased a 3D printer. Designing bits has a bit of a steep learning curve but, luckily, there are tons of ready to go models on various websites.

Sue has already given me a shopping list for kids toys to print for Christmas.

A few weeks ago, we ventured in Birmingham for an evening with the Prog-God that is Rick Wakeman who performed his Six wives of Henry the Eighth and King Arthur.

We bought tickets at the last minute and they were advertised as restricted access. They were. But we were grateful that the people in the row ahead of us never bothered to turn up so we repositioned for a much better view.

The geocaching continues with our all time average still above one a day, helped by my regular outings on the bus pass. I try to find at least seven every week with keeps the batting average up. We’re currently thirty eight caches in credit.

The railway and 3D printing have lured me away from the rowing and cycling rather too much which I am now trying to return to. I have kept my weekly streaks up especially on Zwift as I enter my twenty forth week which should unlock my full sized Scotty Squirrel.

I thought that I’d written about this before but a quick trawl back hasn’t unearthed anything, so I’d better explain.

After six weeks a little Scotty the Squirrel pocket medal appears in the back pocket of your cycling jersey. At twelve weeks, Scotty grows to a keyring and at twenty four he becomes fully animated. Next time that I jump on the bike, I should be so blessed.

So there’s a very brief resumé. I must try to keep on top of the blogging. As with most things you just need consistency.
