I had noticed the home internet dropping out now and again over the past week and Sue confirmed my suspicions by asking if the internet was okay.
Being a bit of a geek, my home internet consists of more bits than the average setup. Instead of the usual black box supplied by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) I have separate modem, router and switch all housed in a mini comms cabinet.
Opening the cabinet I noticed a hissing noise coming from the router and a few checks revealed this to be the culprit.

To get the system up and running, mainly so that the home automation would work, I dug out an old device that could be configured as a basic router and set it up. A new router was also ordered but would be a few days before I could get my hands on it.
Today, the new router (actually a gateway/router) arrived today. Plugging it in, it booted up and the small display told me that the ethernet cable wasn’t connected. It was ! After much cursing, I connected to the router via Bluetooth and deduced that the port (socket) connecting to the outside world (WAN) needed configuring for my ISP. Once done everything came to life.
The other bits and pieces (switches and Access Points (APs)) were configured. A bit of fiddling was required to get Home Assistant (home automation) seeing all the things that it controlled.
Thinking ahead, I decided to book at a table at a small Italian restaurant in Coleshill that has recommended to us.

We arrived to an almost deserted eatery and were shown to our table and provided with menus.
We started with Pizza Garlic Bread then for the mains we went for pasta. My seafood linguini was absolutely gorgeous with tons of fishy bits. Sue’s tagliatelle was also most tasty.
We finished off with Tiramisu (I couldn’t help it) and cheesecake.
The whole meal was splendid and we’ll definitely be going back.
To finish off the night, Sue dragged me off to The Griffin for a couple of jars before returning home.
A most pleasant evening.
