I managed to drag Sue out of the house for a little bimble around the town of Atherstone, primarily to grab a few AdLabs.

We parked up for two free hours before heading for location one at the railway station.

The railway passes over a road with is advertised as 1.9 metres high (or low). Our car is 1.8 but Sue wouldn’t let me try it so we had to contend with walking under.

AdLab location two was along the canal which runs roughly parallel to the rail tracks then it was into the town square for numbers three and four.

On the way, we passed the interestingly named, Minions Close so just had to stop for a photo.

With four out of five locations found and questions answered correctly, we adjourned to the local Costa fro refreshments before returning to the car for a drive to the last location.

Finding all those caches was thirsty work, so I was rewarded with a stop at The Griffin on the way home (we had drive past so it would be rude not to drop in).

Monday night was quiz night where we came a miserable last place. However, the winner spun the ‘wheel of fortune’ which landed on ‘Loser Spins’ meaning that we had a chance to win something. I went up to the bar, gave to wheel a good spin and it landed on ’round of shots’. As I was the only one, even remotely, up for a round of shots, I negotiated with the boss’s wife to defer our reward until Wednesday when I’d be back with the Griffin Cycling Club.

On to Wednesday and Sue was out for one of her Girls’ days so I had the chance to do something on public transport. The half nine start is a bit of a restriction so I decided to get a walk in first then catch a bus from wherever I’d walked to at nine thirty.

On a bright but crisp morning, I planned on walking about four miles towards Stetchford from where I’d catch the 11 (once Europe’s longest bus route) to Acocks Green then a train to Whitlocks End.

With the sun beating down, I set off through Castle Bromwich and towards the River Cole which I followed to Stetchford from where, as planned, I caught the Outer Circle bus to the garage at Acocks Green.

From the bus a short walk took me to Spring Road station and the first of five Adventure Lab locations all along this stretch of railway.

With all five locations visited, I had reached the end of the line (or at least as far as this train was going) so off I got and having about twenty minutes before the return (technically the same unit) I checked the Geocaching app and spotted a ‘Side Tracked’ cache just outside of the station.

After finding the little container and filling in the logbook, I returned to the station and (re-)boarded the train which I rode all the way back to Birmingham Moor Street. A short bus ride took me home.
