As October looms ever closer, the annual Rowbothams Round Rotherham walk is nearly upon us.

This fifty miler roughly follows the Rotherham boundary. I have taken part in this event four times before finishing in three of them. Last year was a bit of a disaster with my shoes falling apart meaning I had to bail out after twenty nine miles! (see previous post).

I have been umming and ahing over this but when I realised that this is a qualifier for next year’s LDWA Hundred (locally, in Warwickshire and surrounding areas) I took the plunge and signed up.

The event takes place on October 1st which is only about five weeks away. My legs which have recently switch from plodding to spinning will have to revert back to walking.

On the logistics side, I will be driving up North on the Friday and staying near to the start.

My usual hotel is not showing properly on the booking sites so I have expanded my search and found a Premier Inn just a mile or so further away. I have booked a room for the princely sum of £45.

I have opted for a 06:05 start so will need to leave the hotel before breakfast is served.

As usual, brekkie will probably comprise of a pot of instant porridge and some nibbles.

From the Premier Inn it is a short, two and a half mile drive to the start at Manvers Waterfront Boat Club.

If it follows the same format as last year, I shall receive a smart card (dibber) my race number and my pre-ordered race T-shirt at registration. I’ll then have time to drop off my T-shirt, pin on my number and get everything ready before dibbing in at the start.

Hopefully, I shall have the correct footwear and then it’s just a case of walking fifty miles.
