Over the past couple of weeks, I’m made a few upgrades to the Zwift Cave.
Rocker Plate
My homemade rocker plate has worked fine and shown the benefits of a less rigid setup. However, when I’ve pushed it a little, like when I’m sprinting, the board has made a few alarming creaks. I was afraid that at some point the creaking would escalate to a crack and I’d be on my arse sat on the floor.
So, I splashed out on a proper plate which was on offer at Wriggle.
The board came ready assembled and just required some inflatable balls to be inserted and inflated to give a level ride (it even came with a little spirit level).
There is a bit more lateral motion than my homemade job (13% side to side) but the main thing is that it doesn’t creak.
The trainer is held in place with velco but I will drill the plate and secure it, as previously, with bolts.
Monitor
I have managed to acquire an old forty two inch monitor. Apart from a slightly iffy HDMI socket, which works nearly all of the time, it’s a fairly decent monitor.
It has built in speakers so I can hear the sounds from Zwift and there’s even a remote.
With this monster just inches from the handlebars, I get a much more immersive feel from my Zwifting.
