… what have I done ?
My club, Nuneaton Harriers is taking part in the Midlands Masters Track & Field Championships this coming Sunday.
I have been asked to compete in the 2k race walk to which I said yes.
Then, I received this message …
I don’t know quite what came over me but I looked at the attached list and replied …
Now, I haven’t run for ages and a couple of laps is a bit different from a half marathon (which was the sort of distance I used to run) but at least I’ll earn at least one point for the club.
So, sometime between now and Sunday, I need to at least run a bit to remind the legs as to what’s involved.
Last night, having to walk the puppies, I decided to try a little running – a bit of a walk / run effort (technically more like a walk / walk/ walk / run effort).
It wasn’t anything too structured, just running when it felt right.
After the first few effort, it did get easier especially a bit of trail running towards the end of each lap.
A couple of years ago, I did a spot of running with Gabby and she remembered this and ran in front keeping a little tension in the bungee lead. To Misty, it was all new but she did well running alongside.
Both dogs seemed to enjoy a quicker than usual outing finishing each lap at under 15:00 / mile.
I will need a couple more jogs before Sunday but all I need to do is finish. I’m not even sure what pace to go for – I’ll just have to wing it !
