Fisherman’s Friends

Another day at work so another day closer to retirement.

I finished work and headed home to freshen up before our evening rendezvous with The Fisherman’s Friends.

First port of call was Water Orton to pick up our friend Helen then make our way into Birmingham.

As we got near to the city centre, signage indicated that our chosen car park was closed so I carried on as best as you can in the city centre heading for a car park that was open. As we passed our intended we noticed that lights were on, cars were moving about and that there were spaces. Then we saw other signage saying that there were a hundred or so spaces.

We pulled in and found a space.

From here (near the NIA) we strolled along the canal towpath towards Brinkley Place where were met up with Helen’s other half, let’s call him Derek, as that’s his name.

Coincidentally, the spot where we were standing was an AdLab location so the question was soon answered and thoughts turned to food.

Sue suggested The Solomon Cutler, a Wetherspoon’s, on Broad Street. Failing to master the online ordering system, we went up to the bar, ordered meals and drinks and didn’t break the bank.

A little after seven (kick off at half past) we crossed Broad Street and straight into Symphony Hall taking our seats. Helen had picked wisely as we were only a few rows from the stage.

The singers started on time and for the next couple of hours kept us entertained with, as they say, hits old and new.

It was fifteen years ago that the group was discovered and have gone through a few changes the most noticeable being the addition of musical instruments – I’m not sure. This must be how Dylan fan must have felt when he went electric.
Just after ten they concluded with “South Australia” to a standing ovation.
