Another day, another railway.

Today’s railway was probably the nearest to our holiday home so we managed to arrive nice and early – so early that the Station Master was just opening.

The Kent and East Sussex (K&ES) railway runs from Bodiam (just up the road from the castle that we visited a few days ago) to Tenterden but as we discovered on cattle day, there is no parking at Bodiam so we had to use the next station along (Northiam) as our base.

Oddly the station is pronounced Nord-am.

The ticket office was closed but we’d already paid online and had a print out of our e-ticket so that should suffice.

Whilst waiting for the first train of the day, we completed the AdLab location (again one at each station) and grabbed a cuppa.

We rode the train down (or is up?) to Bodiam (Bo-de-um) staying there for about twenty minutes before reversing direction and travelling all the way to the other end at Tenterden.

When our tickets were checked we were told that we could exchange our e-tickets for fancy picture tickets at Tenterden if we wanted.

We had managed to find / guess all the AdLab locations except the one at Rolvenden which was a name on a bench. I’m sure that we saw the bench but didn’t catch the name – one for the return trip.

At the terminus, we left the railway and climbed the short hill to the town collecting more AdLab locations around the town trying not to get too wet in the showers. Our geo-total was boosted with a bison tube at the church.

We’d passed a chippy on the way into town and popped in on the way back for some lunch. Along with the usual choices of fish and pies we were also tempted with sea-food lasagne, salads and fish pie.

Well fed, we continued down to the station and boarded a nearly empty DMU for the return trip.

When we stopped at Rolvenden we could see the bench with the name plaque but were just too far away to read however as we pulled out we managed a photo which revealed the answer.

On this leg, the ticket inspector checked our e-ticket then stated that we SHOULD have changed these. I tried explaining what the previous guard had told us but he insisted.

Back at Bodiam, we got our pretty tickets for the final stint back to Northiam.
With, as earlier in the day, a stop over at Bodiam we grabbed some drinks from the station shop including locally pressed apple juice – one with mango and another with beetroot.
They were also selling Levers Alone beer which had been specially brewed for this railway.
Trained out, we drove from Northiam stopping off at the Sedlescombe  village shop for some bits and pieces for the evening. One thing that I did pick up was a bottle of Levers Alone which was consumed back at the Corn Bin.
