Techie Geek Stuff

While we were away, BT delivered the smart Hub ready for the upcoming broadband install.

After a little more research, I think that it should be due fairly easy to get everything up and running just needing to change a couple of setting on my Ubiquiti router (service to PPPoE and inserting a username of  homehub@btbroadband with a password of BT).

I may just get the BT engineer to install the hub in the bedroom, confirm that the wi-fi works and then I can play with the custom settings later.

UPDATE

Without an internet connection, I powered up the hub and tried the ‘hack’ to get to a page where the device could be put into modem or bridging mode. However, there must have been an upgrade as I can’t find that page any more.

It looks like I’ll have to rely on the hub for the routing etc. remove my Ubiquiti router and probably re-assign a few static IP addresses for some of the home automation devices.

It’s not the end of the world.
