Training Zones

Training zones are intensity ranges used to structure workouts and target specific physiological adaptations. They’re based on heart rate or power output, allowing athletes to work at different levels of intensity to improve fitness, endurance, or speed.

In other words, working at different intensities can improve certain aspects of one’s fitness.

For example, Zone 1 is useful for general health and recovery whereas Zone 2 is good for overall endurance – long rides / walks are normally in Zone 2.

Today’s workout on MyWhoosh was designed to give me a feel for the different zones. After the usual warn-up I rode steady to prepare me for chunks at Zone 2, 3, 4 and thirty seconds in 5 before a cool down.

Looking at my Strava entry, you can see the power, and to a lesser extent, Heart Rate, follower the graph above. I must have been doing it right.

Today, is a rest day, cycle-wise, giving me a break, before attempting this tomorrow …

We have shopping on the agenda for today, so I may walk to the supermarket and meet Sue there. That should allow me to clock up another three miles on the feet.
