I have only recently noticed a little spanner symbol next to the turbo trainer tile on MyWhoosh. This button is to initiate a calibration of the trainer.

In the test, and once the trubo is suitably warmed up, you have to accelerate up to 37kph and then stop pedalling. As the turbo spins down, it can calculate how much drag is in the system and calibrate the turbo to take that into account, hopefully giving a truer power reading.

After yesterday’s ride, I performed the calibration. Today’s workout did feel a little harder, perhaps, but not by much. It’s also probably co-incidence but my power readings were steadier with less jumping around. Or I could just be spinning more consistently.

Today’s workout, ‘Tempo with 15sec Surges’ was basically that. A warm up then zone three tempo riding for about four and a half minutes before a fifteen second zone five spurt. This was repeated two more times.

Here’s a video of me during one of these spurts.
