Following on from yesterday’s long walk, I woke with surprisingly fresh legs. A little achey but not too much.

After a quick freshen up, I prepared to take two excited dogs out for a walk. On recent walks I have used normal leashes on their harnesses but they, especially Misty, did pull so today I went for the Halti harnesses.

We only did about two and a half kilometres but we did stop at the local park where the girls had a free run in the fenced off football / basketball court.

After a few minutes tanking around, they came back to me and we made our ways home for breakfast.

Just after eleven, I jumped on the bike for the Wobble Cycle Club’s Sunday Brunch ride. A nice, steady thirty k with a bit of banter.

I’ll have to admit that this was my first ride of the week but enough to keep my weekly streak going (now up to thirty one weeks).

Following a bit of lunch, we braved Sainsbury’s for the weekly shop.

With the shopping put away, I prepared for a walk to The Griffin. Sue was a little concerned that I was overdoing it but assured her that it was only a short(ish) walk and that I’d be taking it easy(ish)!

Just after four, I locked the front door behind me and set off, initially, for Water Orton. From there, I took the usual route towards the train station at Coleshill but at the traffic lights outside of the station, where I’d normally turn left, I continued straight ahead.

At the end of the road, a footpath was taken. Just over fifty metres along the path, I encountered this car almost blocking the way. I could just about get around it but did have to go though a bit of water.

I have been down this path before (not too often as it can get quite overgrown) and at a junction, took the wrong way only to have to backtrack when that trail ran out.

Back on the proper path, I made good time having to go through a few quickly freezing pool of muddy water before the path turned right to reveal a bridge that I sort of recognised so knew I was on the right trail.

The last time that I came this way, I lost the path and had to detour through some fields to get to the main road so tonight I was careful to go the correct way.

Over another bridge (this is the way) and I found myself on Watery Lane which was confirmed with a quick peek at the maps on my phone.

At the end of this lane, I continued along Watery Lane (which was now a proper road) as far as the main road where I turned left and soon found myself in the village of Shustoke.

I was a little ahead of time so instead of continuing up the road to The Griffin, detoured off across a field, along a quiet country road, along a track, through a wood (spooky in the dark), over a field before regaining the main road.

From here it was a five minute walk to The Griffin.

Entering the pub, I saw a couple of friend and was invited to join them. I dropped my bag and ordered a pint of Jaipur. I was asked what Sue would want but I wasn’t going to make that decision so we agreed to wait until she was physically present.

I chatted with Matt and Cas about my walk to the pub and also my recent activities. Can has recently got her and Matt into geocaching so they have now been added to my geocaching friends list.

Sue arrived and I returned to the bar for her drink of choice (hot chocolate) and a couple of cheese cobs.

Shortly afterwards, more friends arrived so we had quite a sociable evening.
