I still maintain an interest in all subjects whatever the current flavour is but I do tend to go a little overboard when I get my teeth into something.
Let me break this down by interests and see if it makes any more sense.
Cycling
At school, I used to go out most Sundays for anything up to a fifty mile ride. As the kids grew up, I could be found with a child on a kiddie seat. I have commuted and recently have discovered the world of Virtual Cycling.
Model Railways
Again, this started around school, had a resurgence about five years ago and again about a year ago.
Computing
Even since my first computer (Tandy TRS80) back in the late seventies, I have been interested in computing from both a hard and soft aspect. I have built and re-built umpteen systems and dabbled with numerous Operating Systems (OS) including DOS, Windows (from Win3.0 upwards), Linux and Apple (Mac, iOS, iPadOS). Photography
From my first, proper, camera (see above) I have always taken photos. From the early days of 35mm film (including developing and printing) through early digital to the camera that’s always to hand in the form of a smart phone, I have been snapping away.
For the past, many years, it has been digital. I did go from a VGA resolution point and shoot through to the dSLR peaking with the excellent Nikon D500. However, needing a new phone, I (foolishly in hindsight) sold the 500 and bought a top of the range iPhone Pro Max. As I always have the iPhone with me, I am never without a means to capture an image and phone cameras have come on a long way.
I retained the camera before the D500, an earlier D300s. Still very good but not as good in low light as the 500. This comes out, now and again but has been squirrelled away until, during a recent bout of tidying up, it was unearthed.
It was fitted with what they call a motor drive (from the old film days when an actual motor wound on the film) but nowadays extra battery storage, making it rather bulky (and heavy).
I removed the extra bit but couldn’t find the original batteries or charger. I searched high and low but no good.
Finally, I splashed out on a couple of new batteries and a charger only to discover that my daughter had a two compatible batteries. Oh well, you can never have too many batteries.
I have a number of lenses to go with the camera and am hopefully going out, on location as they say, to grab a few pics which, of course, the best will be posted on here.
