Today, I had to go to Solihull for an MRI scan on my left knee.
The process was fairly straightforward and I was in and out within around half an hour.
I have made an appointment in about a week’s time to discuss the findings with the consultant.
With some healthy living and regular exercise my knees are behaving and I am more inclined to ask about alternatives to the knee replacement than go through with the suggested surgery and it’s protracted recovery.
On my way to the clinic, I passed the Grand Union Canal so post MRI I parked up near to the canal, started Strava on my watch and headed to the cut.
I planned on a four mile walk so decided to walk out for just over two miles before turning back.
For the first mile, I walked parallel with the canal through adjacent fields and wooded areas.
On reaching Catherine-de-Barnes, I dropped onto the towpath proper for another mile and a bit until I reached a point where the canal crosses under the M42.

Turning around, I retraced my steps, re-passing a rather interesting looking vessel.
It looked like a cross between the Yellow Submarine and Captain Nemo’s Nautilus.
Back at Catherine-de-Barnes, I continued along the towpath to my starting point clocking up a total of 4.62 miles in just over seventy minutes (average pace 15:23) bolstered mainly by mile four which I clocked at 14:34. I was really moving, having brought the arms into action.
Back at the car, I proceeded home, stopping off for a sneaky chocolate bar and a can of drink.
