After my triumphal return to the race walking scene on Wednesday, I took the rest of the week easy (very easy, actually).
However, on Saturday, I got out early for a couple of dog walks totalling 3.9 miles.
After breakfast (for all three of us) I made my way to the local parkrun at Babbs Mill.
I arrived a little early, so took a walk around the lakes as a two mile warmup before making my way to the nine o’clock start.
I started easily enough, planning on a gentle stroll around however, the pace felt good and the watch confirmed that I was clocking around 13:30 per mile so pushed it a bit to get the average pace down to around thirteen minutes per mile.
A quick calculation of three miles at thirteen minutes each gives thirty nine and that 0.1 would add a little bit extra but I would finish around forty / forty one minutes.
I would probably managed but that call of nature dip at one mile didn’t help and I managed to finish in 41:11 at an average pace of 13:01.
Not my fastest parkrun but I wasn’t expecting great shakes just a gentle easing back in.
I concluded with nearly a mile as a cool down, clocking up around ten miles for the day and all before ten.
The following day, however, and I awoke with aches in my hips and thighs – surely a sign that I’d done too much so I took it very easy on the Sunday.
