Out of the house before eight for a little walk with the dogs, clocking up 3.6 miles before breakfast.
In the afternoon, I arranged with Sue to meet me at The Griffin at half six so set off for the second walk of the day just before half four.
I headed, firstly for Water Orton and then off towards Coleshill.
As I reached the main road (A446) I had to wait for the traffic lights to change. As the lights went to red on the A446, a car shot through the light and as he passed me, I waved an accusing finger at him. Luckily to have escaped death, I continued across the carriageway only to be almost run over by another vehicle that had rushed through the red light a good few seconds after it had changed. I had to run out off it’s path and as he sped past me I gave his mirror a good twatting.
After my dice with death, I continued to Colehill Parkway then onto a footpath that skirts Hams Hall Distribution Park. On my walk today, this was the only bit that was flooded but previous visitors had worn a temporary path up the bank above the water.
With the big puddle negotiated, I continued toward Nether Whitacre crossing a slightly boggy field to reach the village. This field is often proper flooded and I was concerned that after the recent rains it might well be again. Luckily it was just a bit muddy.
Back on solid ground, I walked through the village before taking to the great outdoors again.
I walked through Colin Teall Wood before following the railway line until I could cut into Shustoke Reservoir.
I was a little ahead of time so instead of heading straight to the pub, I detoured to Shustoke and then the final mile along the road arriving at the boozer at around a quarter past six.
After removing my headphones and headtorch, I entered a busy Griffin and made my way to the bar. First pint was iced water before selecting a pint of Butty Bach.
I was making my way to share a table with someone when the occupant of an adjacent table made ready to leave so I jumped on that one instead. I had a pint and a table now I just had to wait the arrival of my other half.
Sue joined me just after the agreed half six and after another couple of (lowish alcohol) beers departed for home and a late dinner / supper.
The extra eight miles this evening brought the weekly total to 24.73 miles which was just a tad over the planned twenty four miles. It’s only week one but I’m on schedule with the A Coventry Way training 🙂
