Despite feeling, decidedly, under the weather, I was up and out the house by ten past five this morning heading for work.
The Plan called for eight miles today so I planned on walking along the newish cyclepath/walkway through Bromford to join the Birmingham and Fazeley canal.
The Birmingham & Fazeley was followed to Salford Junction (under Spaghetti) from where I took teh Birmingham & Warwick Junction Canal towards Bordesley.
As I approached Saltley, I hit the roadworks. A temporary towpath built on pontoons has been constructed to had a slightly wobbly walk along this stretch before reaching terra firma for the final mile and a bit.
I exited the canal system to grab a few provisions from the (expensive) BP garage before the final few metres to work.
The going was hard and I only managed to move at a tad quicker than 16:00 miles.
I’m not one hundred percent sure that walking that distance was such a good idea.
I took it easy at work and should have bailed out and gone home but I had arranged to meet my brother in Birmingham later. Benny lives in South Wales and we don’t meet up too often.
After work, I took a slow walk into Birmingham. I knew that it would be slow going so didn’t bother to log the mile. I skirted the edge of the Custard Factory before emerging at The Bull Ring.
I had about a half hour or so to kill before meeting up with Ben, so called in to the LEGO shop to fill a Bick a Brick box. I spent nearly half an hour stacking brick to get as much in as I could. I paid for the box then as I was leaving, spotted a set that Sue had been after for a while (The Stary Night) so had to return to the tills to pay for more bricks !
I left the Bull Ring with big yellow bag and met up with my brother in The Wellington pub for a bit of a catch up over a few pints.
The Wellington had sixteen real ales on tap and three real ciders but we came nowhere near sampling them all.
Sat down just chatting I could manage but walking over to the bus then home at the other end reminded me that I was coming down with the lurgy and my mileage may have to be reduced for a couple of days or so.
