During the exercise to combine my various blogs, I ended up reading some of my older entries (the earliest is from 2013).
As I was training, initially for the Thames Path, I built my speed up and was able to walk for miles at something approaching sub thirteen minute miling. Even years later, when I was dabbling with race walking I was walking at twelve something a mile.
Recently, I can’t get under fifteen minutes and am currently hovering around seventeen.
Why have I become SO slow ?
Looking back at Strava from the beginning of the year, I was still clocking sub fifteen minute miles.
Oh, and then I did my knee in – that’ll have some bearing on my recent tardiness !
SInce March, I just haven’t been able to walk far or quickly without pain if at all.
I have signed up for a couple of events next year, the first being the Tissington Half at the end of January. These event are meant as something to aim for.
The knee is getting stronger but still gives way, especially on a sudden change of incline. I am hoping that a bit more walking will further strengthen my knee and therefore enable me to build back up but it’s almost like starting all over.
